“Mental illness” is such a broad term. It is the largest of umbrellas that covers conditions as vast as the ocean. Myself, I am somewhere in the middle. I have Bipolar II Disorder and I have done anything and everything I can to manage it and lead a successful life. (I’ve done a pretty damn good job, if you ask me…) I have seen therapists and doctors then more doctors and more therapists. I have tried numerous medications in search of the right one that will “fix” me. Although, when you wrestle with mental illness it’s hard to know whoyouare sometimes. What exactly does “fixed” look like? Are you the energetic mom who loves life and enjoys the chaos of day to day life with kids? Are you the quiet, reserved person who looks at life cautiously and is slow to take risks? Or are you the lunatic perfectionist that has to have every single thing perfect at every single minute and will steamroll anyone who gets in the way? Maybe something in between? It’s so hard to know.

I seem to appreciate the smaller things because I can actually see them; the seconds in my life aren’t hurling past me at warp speed. There aren’t five million thoughts fighting for my attention.
